Different kinds of insulation have been developed over the years. Owens Corning® is a pioneer of some of today’s most efficient insulating products. The company is known for its use of pink-colored products and even adopted the Pink Panther as their mascot.
Learn how the Pink Panther was chosen as Owens Corning’s official mascot from one of your leading asphalt shingle roof companies, Silver Leaf Contracting.
In 1932, Corning Glass researcher, Dale Kleist accidentally discovered Fiberglas. He was attempting to combine glass blocks to form transparent, weatherproof walls. While he was trying to use glass as a sealant, a stream of compressed air collided to the molten glass and formed a spray of small fibers.
Not long after, Corning Glass merged with another glass manufacturer, Owens-Illinois. A new company was then established to innovate this product.
At Silver Leaf Contracting, we work with Owens Corning to provide you with a well-insulated roofing system that’s backed with strong warranties. We specialize in both commercial and residential roof replacement and repair.
To stand out from other fiberglass manufacturers, Owens Corning started placing red dye to the naturally tan insulation. In 1985, the company trademarked PINK, which became an effective marketing tool that was launched in 1956.
Owens Corning adopted the Pink Panther as their official mascot in 1980. The famous cartoon character identifies with the color of the brand’s Fiberglas insulation.
Modern fiberglass is innovated by incorporating other insulating materials like styrofoam or plastic foam. Rock wool is still utilized for thermal and acoustic insulation and fire-resistance. Those who are seeking for more environmentally-friendly options can choose soy-foam insulation, which is made from recycled denim jeans.
